Last Friday, I could still get my USB printer and USB flash drives to work, but since yesterday, my printer and flash drive could not be read by any of my three USB ports and I've learned that there is no Universal Bus Controllers in the Device Manager of my laptop. What could be the problem?

I haven't reinstalled Windows. I'll try updating the driver. Thanks!

Update: Updating the drivers did not work. USB controllers still couldn't be seen on the Device Manager.

Sounds like you lost your drivers. Did you by any chance reinstall Windows? Look for a drivers CD that may have come with your PC, or checkthe manufacturer web site.

Umm please do this ....

START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Choose a date when your computer was working fine. Please make sure choose a date when your printer and scanner and other stuff was attached to your laptop and while doing system restore, SAME stuff should be attached to your laptop.
Most of the times System Restore fails when the same hardware components are not attached.

The reason: Your computer may have downloaded some updates from Microsoft. Sometimes these updates do not apply properly and it results into malfunctioning of drivers.
OR
You may have installed some software which may have made changes in driver files for USB.

I hope you have not upgrade the firmware for BIOS of your computer.

Please try the system restore first and let us know if that resolved the problem or not.

If the pc become a homebuild, it is going to be on hte provided CD with the "motherboard" If this is a branded one (Dell, HP etc) touch them for ideal motive force based on the equipment (thy the help pages on their website, HP's is very stable as long as you have device style)
