You havn't really offered enough details to offer an interpretation here, but dreams of dying are rarely about your physical death, they tend to be more about things that you are leaving behind, and about endings and beginnings, for example, if you learn an important life lesson, and the lesson causes you to look at things differently, and reach a new level of maturity in how you handle things, then you might dream that you die, and it would represent that you have passed on from your old way of looking at things. Or if you graduate, you might dream that you died, and that would symbolize that you ended your old life as a student, and started your new life in the so called real world. These are just a couple of examples that could trigger dreams of your own death. As to why we dream, I don't know anything about what sort of physical process goes on that triggers it, but my own feeling about it is that the sleep state is very crucial to absorbing the experiences we had during the day, and dreaming allows us some time to ourselves undisturbed to look at problems more honestly, and without distraction. As we go about our waking life, we have so many distractions in the way of work, and things to do, and people who want our attention, in the dream state is the only time we can digest these things. In the so called real world, there are many things that can cause you to push aside issues you need to deal with, in the dream state, you can look at these issues undisturbed. Dreams have thier own language though, and the unlocking of the language requires study on your part to understand what the symbols and stories in your dreams mean to you personally...

Do youhave sleep apnea? That could be one reason. The other is just that when you are a sleep you have no control over what is happening, are you a control freak? This could be another reason. Hope this helps.
