And what's the science behind craving odd food whilst pregnant?

My weirdest food craving -- I'd been an exchange student in Japan, and went home for a visit, and was with my mom at an aquarium, and there was an adorable little octopus. And he just looked like the yummiest thing! So, I opened my mouth and said what I thought. Oh dear. A bit shocking for my poor mother, who cannot eat anything with eyes or other bits. A bit embarrassing, too. But there's good eating on an octopus!
I don't remember craving anything in particular during my pregnancy, but I did enjoy my food, once morning sickness was over.
(-: I don't know the exact science behind odd pregnancy cravings, but I read somewhere that some scientists think it's because a woman is lacking in certain minerals. So she may crave ice or rocks. Never heard of anyone craving shower gel, but I do admit, sometimes mousse and hair gel looks awfully edible. I never do my hair before breakfast (-:.

Peanut Butter and pickle sandwiches. As for the cravings with being pregnant, I was told the body and/or baby knows where to get certain minerals and vitamins and creates a craving for the food.

The only thing I craved was ice. I wanted ice chips all the time. I would go to fast food places and just ask for a cup of ice because theirs was the best. And at home I would only fill our ice cube trays up a little bit so they were little and easy to chew. now that I'm not preg I don't want anything to do with ice haha.

When I was pregnant with our first son the craving was dry roasted peanuts. not so weird but I just could not get enough of these little things. With our second son I craved nothing. That was weird for me at least because it didn't matter how much I wanted to it just didn't happen.
Sad really.

Well.......When i was pregnant with my lil girl a ate oatmeal cream pies with chesse dipped in mustard. Ummm and chicken and peanut butter on top and this may sound real nasty but i had a craving for carpet to chew on it i wanted to just go to walmart and get a large piece of it. It look so yummy to chew and rub my gum against it it was crazy ppl laugh at me i was so serious . This stuff makes me sick to the stomach now but i loved it when i was pregnant and guess who likes it now........the lil girl a was pregnant with and when i was pregnant i couldn't keep down pancakes and guess what my lil girl hates padncakes she doesnt even like the smell of them ! That's something but i think that is something..... what i like while pregnant but dont like now she does and what i couldn't eat anymore that i did like she hates......

When I was pregnant and for months afterwards I wanted to eat tootise rolls on Chicken In A Biscuit crackers. They were even better microwaved to soften the tootsie roll.

I've never been pregnant (obviously) but when I was fasting one time I craved fried crickets. I do not know why I only had them once when I visited Israel when I was younger.

carryin daughters i craved lemons and grapefruit and gooseberries great freuit has no effects on kids now.carrying my boys couldnt eat dairy ata ll made me well ill only dry toast dry crackers and findus crisp pancakes chk and bacon yuk.hubby craved porkscratchins and cider when i carried boys drank tray of cider and 2/3bags pork scratchin aday.

when i was pregant for the 1st time i had a huge craving to eat shower gel...it looked so yummy, my second pregnancy i wanted to eat coal and now this pregnancy i like fries dipped in cold coffee
