Why do the majority of rightwingers dislike Muslims?

Just asking cause from what I understand, there are 1.2 Billion Muslims around the world and I am sure not all of them follow Osama Bin Laden. Unless if you want to believe that!

Because for the last 6 years, religious and political leaders have painted all Muslims with one brush, and proclaimed that Christianity and the Western way of life are under attack.

Why? Because the American people would not have supported the militaristic power agenda of Bush Republicans if they were told in 2001 that there were only one or two thousand radicals in the world who were bent on attacking the US. The people would have become apathetic a few months after 9-11 if our leaders had simply and immediately focused on bin Laden and exterminated and imprisoned his Al Qaeda.

The religious leaders also had a lot to gain by demonizing an entire religion. Mega church attendance had begun to fall, and turning the terrorism problem into a 21st century reprise of the Crusades gave evangelical Christian leaders the opportunity to increase religious fervor and donations.

They dont dislike all muslims. That is false. Sure there are some narrow minded people who do, but it would be a minority of them.

One thing that I can say personally from my point of view is that I don't dislike all muslims my best mate is a muslin from syria. One of the nicest guys I have ever met. but that being said I feel that the muslims who dont beleive in Bin ladens tactics or beleifs are not speaking out enough against him. They have allowed him to hi jack their religion.

Ever heard the saying "all it takes for evil to win is for good men to do nothing"? Well I believe this is what has happened with islam and the muslims. They have allowed bin laden to win out and for people to beleive that this is the majority of thought in islam becuase no one is speaking out against it. Good men are doing nothing.

When a Abortion clinic is bombed and the group claims they did it in the name of christian religion the first thing you see is multiple christian churches speaking out that they dont condone that activity. It send the message that this is a fringe group doing it and not the religion

By the way I am not a christian nor do i subscribe to any religin so this is not me defending my chuuch it is just the reality. If more muslims spoke out and even took action against these things then people would see more clearly that it is not the religion or people as a whole.

I suppose it depends on what we call a right winger as opposed to just a conservative. If you mean your typical conservative I disagree - I do not think a majority dislike muslims. This is demonstrated by most of the answers above. If you mean looney extremist right nutcases then they dislike muslims because thier politics is all about hate and discriminiation. You seem to be implying that right wingers are acting somewhat bigoted, but if you talk to your average conservative, it's the extremists, not muslims on a whole, they have a problem with. And since your average muslim generally doesn't have a very high view of extremists that make their religion seem 'crazy' to the uneducated and media-fed ignorant, any more than christians typically respect abortion clinic bombers, it's not a shock that most people have something against them. But not muslims on a whole, that's too broad a statement. And you can trust me, I am very close to a few different very large groups of Republicans. Funny thing too, as outspoken as they are about their feelings, they don't feel the need to shove it in anybody's faces or make broad spectrum statements about groups on a whole.

Well, the last time I checked a plane full of white grandmothers didn't hijack them with knitting needles and fly them into tall buildings, nor do they conduct suicide bombing missions all over the world. Right wing folks in the US are fundamentalist Christians who are very similar to right wing Muslim fundamentalists. Therefore, they have an instant dislike since they are so much alike.
