Isn't it time that we stopped making the unquestionable and unstinting supprt of Israel the chief objective of our policy in the middle east?
The state of Israel has the right to its existence. They have a right to defend that existence and a right to seek help and alliances to protect themselves.
But I object to the protection of Israel being the cornerstone
for our foreign policy in that area of the world.
Many of the Arab and Iranian aspirations are legitimate and we would have done the world -and first and foremost ourselves! - a big favour if we had considered those aspirations pragmatically and objectively, with OUR best interests in mind and not Israel's.
We have alienated a whole people (who just happen to sit on some of the most valuable real estate in terms of energy supply on the whole planet) and have violated many of the precepts and values we hold most dear and most American just to back a foreign country.
Please, your thoughts?racial slurs and name calling not welcome

To kelvinistic.I'm impressed. You are right on the ball. So few people even know(less care9about the shameful USS Liberty incident when Israel fired on our ship . There are about 60 Israeli spies in our jails who will get get lightly slapped on the wrist and after a few months get sent back to Israel. There are Israeli dual -citizens advising the president and the state department.

to someone who objected to the term¨51st state¨,it's a question, not an affirmation.

Israel unfortunately owns us. Neoconservatives and Liberals alike, sold us out along time ago.

You've made some good points.

But until the biblical-minded fundamentalist Christians lose political power in the US, it's just empty talk.

The politics of hate and exclusion is going strong. Israel serves as a supplier of arms made in the USA to lots of Third-World countries that the US doesn't deal with directly (largely because the US arms the other side in conflicts). It's just more hate and destruction.

Israel would not exist without our early and continuing support. It's a throw-back to the kind of thinking that drove the Cold War. They think they're hot sh!t but they only survive by consuming American tax dollars.

israel is very good for the united states. we are on very friendly terms and when the united states says "jump!" they ask, "how high?"

this is a good thing for a country to have, especially when the satellite nation is very resilient and in the middle of a group of people that the bigger nation hates.

but the best thing about israel for the united states is the built in safe-guard against criticism. if someone dares question the nature of our relationship with the state, the government and its supporters can immediately scream "ANTI SEMITE!!"

They have the right to existance...but it's their faith that says "oh you have to have be right next to Jerusalem" WORST SPOT ON THE PLANET for Zionism to manifest...worst...Antarctica would've done the world more good...and of course we had to give them nukes...like any responsible parent. But honestly I do question the sovereignty of Israel...I think the post WWII western powers KNEW Israel would be a usefull tool for future endevours...and the Timing for them to invade Lebanon was just too fishy. It played so well for republicans right before the 06 election

why does an ally spy, sell arms technology to rivals like China and launch false flag attacks like it did on the USS Liberty?
it's more like an abusive relationship with the US getting all the abuse.

You ask a ridiculous question and then implore people not to insult you. If you leave out the "51st state" clause in your question, people would give you some creditability. Since you didn't, prepare to be insulted since many will find your question insulting (as well as stupid).

Israel is a sovereign country so unless you want everyone else to die stop wishing it on the Jews exclusively.
