I am trying to find boys and girls names that are different without being odd or out of this world, a name that cannot be shortened (I am not a fan of Benjamin, Matthew, etc) and something that doesn't end in 'an', 'en', 'on' or 'in' (our son ends in 'an'). A name that has a meaning related to water would be a bonus. Our surname is Kennedy too.

Kennedy is a really easy surname to add to so I don't think that will be much of an issue. As for shortening, a child will only go by a shortened version if you do it so if you stick to their full name it shouldn't be a problem either. My sister has Stephanie, Savannah and Madeleine, all very easily shortened names but they are only called their full name. Kids at school might shorten it but only if your child lets them.

For girls some I like are...
Eliza
Imogen (i know its 'en' but still a little out of the ordinary)
Merredith
Brooke
Raine (actually french for Queen)
Lainey
Lacey
Sheree
Olivia
Therese/a
Louise/a
Natashia
Kareena
Zarah
Lara (brazillian for water lady)
Talise (nature american for beautiful water)
Nereida ( greek for water nymph)

For boys...
Hunter
Oliver
Oscar
Max
Alix
Noah
Nathaniel
Halsey (channel of water)
Jalendra (King of the water)
Layton (water course)
Malhara (greek for giver of rain)

Hope that helps. All the suggestions with meanings comes from http://www.babynamesworld.com/ and you can do a meaning search and find names which have a meaning with the word 'water' or 'rain' in them. or narrow down names in different catagories like african, english etc...

Best of luck
