Of course: he actually works very hard to make his moves funny, and his characters tend to be sad-sack average joe types who by accident get caught up in bad situations or are forced to fight.

He's acknowledged too that he's working out of an ancient traditon in Chinese opera, that of the acrobatic comic. The Monkey King aka "Journey to the West" is probably the best known of these characters: he takes on the duty of protecting a Buddhist monk who is carrying sacred texts from India to China, but being a Monkey, he's more clever than muscular. So the fight scenes often descend into slapstick with Monkey bouncing off of walls, doing somersaults and whacking villains over the head with a bamboo stick. The fighting doesn't so much knock out the bad guy as it just exhausts and frustrates him.

I'd describe a lot of Chan's middle and later work in the same vein. "Drunken Master" is a very funny movie, as it was intended to be; and his made-for-America films are all comedies.

The guy is really incredible!!!
And the way he combines reality with comedy. I guess its right to call him a slapstick comedian.
Nearly all his movies are real fightings. quite unlike that of Jet Li, whose are computer tricks. The guy can go to extremes when on stage. And often get carted away when hurt.
I like "Drunken Master", "Police Story""Mr. Nice guy" and a host of his movies.
Yes, He's the slapstick comedian!

Absolutely - yes.

I am lucky enough to have seen 'Master with Cracked Fingers'. His genius showed, even then. He is the Master of Slapstick, for sure.

He does his own stunts and has been hurt many times, his stunts are amazing. Even if you don't like the content, you have to admit, he is very graceful and skilled.

His stunts are what I find both incredible and funny.

In one of the movies he allowed a snowmobile to come off a jump, land on his back, and drive him down into the snow face first.

It's funny because he's like the little kid on the block who will daredevil guinea pig for anything.

There are only four slapstick comedians in comedy history:

Larry, Curley, Moe, and Schemp.

Chan is good, but he was just born at the wrong time. Sorry.

Yes as well as Tony Shalhoub. They are males who are equivalent to Lucy Ball. They are hilarious.
