Increase RAM. 1Gb is optimum for XP. If you are still on integrated graphics, install a discrete graphics card. Then try disabling unnecessary startups in msconfig (Run msconfig).

Increase your Ram to 512 MB or Higher.
Alternative Solution, Increase the Virtual Memory.
Right Click on My Computer - Properties - Advanced - Click on Settings under Performance - Click Advanced - Change - Se the Virtual Memory to 1000 MB - 2000MB
Use ccleaner & Tuneup Utilities (Boost up your PC).
Defragment Hard Disk Drive
Update your Drivers using Driver Magician - Driver Genius Professional

i think adding a memory module will increase its performance...i used to use a 128mb ram and 600mhz for windows xp, and i am proud to say that i have survived...
basically, i turned off all good-looks, check it on performance tab in system properties and select best performance which will turn your xp to windows classics skin...next...download tune-up utilities and run a registry clean and defrag your pc with auslogics defrag...limit opened programs and use simple apps...i used star mesenger, opera, infranview instead of media player and those similar light to pc programs..use light antivirus too

this pc is still a little bit good... oh i cant imagine people like dull jon are just wasting money... ofcourse you can still use that one... imagine ive got my old pc pentium 4 1.5gig, 256mb memory ram, 80gb hardisc, 64mb videocard, but still it is very fast... faster than other pc that i saw outside which must be faster than mine... all you have to do is to maintain your pc's good health... always update you antivirus and anti spyware and other ware, to make your pc free from viruses and bad wares... keep your hard disc fragmented... keep your pc temperature cool, get it rid from dust... uninstall un used software... make some disc clean up...maintain check disc for errors...
yup if you like, you can still upgrade your pc memory and other stuff to make it faster...
good luck...

More memory! Every computer I've had has run best on atleast a GB. Also try cleaning the junk off your computer that doesn't need to be there. (i.e. cookies, temp. files, ect.)

it would be more practical to buy a new pc
you need to increase your ram but if your pc is old then old hardware are hard to find AND expensive.
