I agree with you about the sidekick. I saw one just recently.
The owner showed me all the features and told me how much she enjoys hers.
I have T-Mobile right now, and it is one of the best carriers for my particular area. I was considering getting one myself!

The best phone on the market is the Nokia N95 Black. Apart from having a 5Mp Camera, 3G, MP3, MMS, GPRS, Sat Nav etc. etc., it also comes with a whopping 8Gb Hard Drive. Sadly, it's not available in the UK or else I would definitely have one. I wouldn't touch a T-Mobile phone as they are only one step better than a Motorolla. For reliability and durability you have to go for phones in this order, starting at the most reliable / durable to the worst possible.
1) Nokia
2) Sony Erikson
3) LG
4) o2
5) Samsung
6) T-Mobile
7) Motorolla
As for the i-phone that has been suggested, avoid it like the plague! I'll give it less than 6 months before users are going crazy because of batteries draining etc. as all Apple products have done so far. I'm shocked that Americans still buy Apple products when they have always proven to be unreliable. Apart from that, the i-phone is NOT 3G, doesn't have MMS so you can't send or receive photos or video. Basically, the i-phone is just a barebone, basic mobile phone with a built in i-pod. As the phone is not 3G, calls will not be as clear or reliable as other phones. As for the price dropping below $200, you should be able to see why by now.
Although the N95 is the best phone at the moment, it uses the Symbian S60 V3 Operating System. Watch out for new Nokias, over the next 12 months as Nokia have done a deal for Microsoft to provide the new Operating Systems. This basically means that you will be able to get the best phone, with the best Operating System and will be able to use the best software. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft throw Mobile Office (Word, Excell) and Sat Nav in as standard.

My friends hate their sidekicks. The T-mobile dash on the other hand is AMAZING. its simple and efficient and has lots of great features.

depends on who is paying for it, and what features you need, and who your carrier is.
