If I want to buy a Beginner's graphics card which is Direct x 10
capable and maybe 50 to 75 dollars, is the Nvidia 8400 a Video card to look at?

Cause we're going to buy a motherboard that is PCI and a video card also....and we're on a tight budget right now

It is a real "banger for the buck" entry level card especially if you overclock it. Check it out here:

The 8400 is a t*rd, even die hard Nvidia fans will let you know, it's just not worth it. It can't run any dx10 games (just lacks the power), video interlacing is horrible.....

At that price you can get an ATi 2400XT (don't know about the pro version's performance) which is maybe two to three times faster and still dx10.

You can also get one of the cheaper Nvidia 7600xx or ATi X16xx card for that price, miles ahead, but w/o dx10.

FYI: PCI and PCI-Express are two totally different things.

What are you wanting to do with this card? If you want to play games on low graphics the 8400 will do it, if you want a card that will play games on medium to high graphics, you should go one up from that card and get the 8600gs or 8600gt, yes they cost a little more(about $150) but if you want to have no lag and great graphics that would be the one I recommend.

I recommend the NVIDIA 8500GT (128 bit) $58.99. While not a gaming card by any means it is a lot faster than the NVIDIA 8400GS (64 bit) $46.99. Both support DirectX 10.
