Jeremiah 10: 2-6

2 Thus says the LORD:

“ Do not learn the way of the Gentiles;
Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven,
For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are futile;
For one cuts a tree from the forest,
The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
4 They decorate it with silver and gold;
They fasten it with nails and hammers
So that it will not topple.
5 They are upright, like a palm tree,
And they cannot speak;
They must be carried,
Because they cannot go by themselves.
Do not be afraid of them,
For they cannot do evil,
Nor can they do any good.”

Hi David.

Great scripture. I personally interpret this as meaning that while gentiles "cannot do evil," the fact that they are bemused by material things, and include them in their celebrations (trees decorated with silver and gold) does nothing for the building up of the Lord's body. That's why it says "Nor can they do any good."

This materialism blocks us from recieving the Holy Spirit.

Baby Jesus was born under a Christmas tree and Santa Claus saw his star in the sky and brought him some chocolate Easter Eggs as a gift... or at least that is what you would think the way Christians howl when a Christmas tree is called a Holiday Tree instead.

Christmas used to be a single day of the year, but now it is a season. I don't get that either.

We have to remember that we as Christians have our roots in Judeo Christian customs. Christmas is a Roman Catholic tradition that was introduced in the early-to-mid 4th century and had Christmas placed on December 25. A date later adopted around the world.

The date of Christmas may have initially been chosen to correspond with the exact day early Christians believed Jesus was conceived nine months before.

This is a true story. I once heard a pastor deliver fire from the pulpit about how Santa Claus is an idol. Afterwards, in the fellowship area, I found this church had a Christmas tree (something we've never had in our house), and on the Christmas tree, guess what I found? A Santa Claus ornament.

Go figure.

The Christmas tree is a pagan symbol. The Tree of life with the light of our souls in her branches. X-stians absorbed it into there mythology to convert those who were still clinging to there local deities.To fool them into believing that they had similar traditions in an attempt to rule the world.

the bible is an ancient story based on an even more ancient legend. It was written at a time when people were naive about the world, had little or no education, and no technology. Ethics, morals, and everything else have changed since. We cannot live our lives today based on something like that, it simply would not work.

Nothing--the Christmas tree was a pagan rite adopted by Christians. So much for one true way.

I would be very surprised if the bible had written in it something that has to do with Pagan ritual, even if it's something the early Christians adopted as their own.
