I asked this question because the long standing image of these words impress more meaning than their political counterparts.

i.e. Liberal =Flamboyant.
Conservative=Reserved.

Their political meaning became highly confusing over time, enough so as to render it a waste of time pursueing.

Funny, when you watch the debates, either conservative Republican, or liberal Democrat, you could erase any of the heads and replace with any of the other and they would still look the same. I can't see any difference.

Then if you go into the real world, look to those like Tammy Faye Baker, she dressed very flamboyantly, yet was a neo-con.

So, no I do not think there is a correlation between your head thoughts and the way you present yourself, at least in most instances.

These are not contradictory or opposed terms.

'Liberal" - generous, in favour of freedom.
Conservative - supportive of the maintenance of the status quo.

So, they only differ when the current situation is not one of freedom.

Regrettably, many people, (mainly americans?) seem to confuse these terms as meaning "right wing" or "very right wing" - as in their two cynically named right-wing political parties - the right-wing democrats against democracy and the far-right republican fascists.

If either were republican or democratic then they'd be working to remove or limit the power of political parties - as being inhererently undemocratic and anti-republican.
