Well if you go to classmates.com if she or he has registered with them, classmates.com will tell you that they do have that individual in the system and then they will ask for your credit card to pay a really small monthly membership fee or just like a one time fee. It's like $20 or less. So it'd be worth it, because classmates.com would have their contact information if they have registered on that site too. And by now, everyone has heard of classmates.com and reunion.com So you could give it a try. Good luck with finding your friend. I'm currently going through the same thing.

Did you go to school with this friend in the USA? I found some old friends on classmates.com No credit card needed. I think you might be able to do a search if you are not a member, but if you find your friend, you will have to sign up (still no credit card needed for the basic membership) to send them an email thru classmates.
edited to add: the answerer above me may have more recent info regarding membership and paying. I found my friends over 1 year ago.

Why dont your put the details of your long lost friend here on this site and I sure some one can help or may be your friend is into this and may respond. You could give it a try. Also register on other Lost friends sites etc and fill out details for the one you are searching. Give all avenues a try, could work. Some one who knows the name of your friend may also be of use in locating yr friend.

Try using friendster or facebook to find friends. You have to sign up, but it is free. I found a few elementary school friends. I just searched for people that graduated in the high school I would have went to if I did not move after junior high school.
I did a free thing with classmates.com, all I got was a lot of junk email!
Hope you can find your friends.

Hard to say without knowing where you live. In New Zealand we have electoral roles with the name and area of every registered voter. These can be found in any public library
