Taking something like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Midol are ok to try and help pain. Another thing you can do is to increase the level of iron that you take in during that time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course).

If however, you find that this pain makes it hard for you to function please see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think is going on.

general info... Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches). Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles). Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago. Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain. The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles). For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

I have very bad pains during my period and the only thing that works for me if nurofen plus, everything else doesn't make a dent in the pain. There is a special roll on called "a little bit of period pain relief", never used it but maybe it could help. Exercise can work wonders, over time taking evening primrose can work. But if the pain is very bad maybe you could go and see your Doctor you may have a fertility issue called endometriosis.

start painkillers the moment u feel any discomfort in that area. I used to take pain killers when the pain had become too strong. Try buscopan, it gets rid of stomach cramps. Perhaps go to the doctor. I have polycystic ovaries and that is often a cause of pain. I cannot wear any tight clothing around my stomach becasue of this.

I used to have severe pain during my periods ( on the first day), I used to take 2 pain killers, and I used to place something hot on me (near ovaries). It would really help. There is nothing bad about taking the pain killers

I wish I knew how old you were before suggesting this, but sex relaxes the pain believe it or not.

A heating pad helps. Pamprin and Motrin are over the counter. Your GYN can prescribe meds if pain is bad enough.

the best thing to lessen that pain is to have sit-ups before your period. If you wouldn't be able to do that, warm compress is great. lie down with your feet a little above your body and have a warm compress while doing this. that's what i do when i have the pain during my period.
