Is it true that McDonalds put a (harmless) type of slug in their milkshakes as a thickening agent?

Someone told me when I was younger and I never looked into it.

Not true. Just another myth like how they have cockroaches ground up inside Coca Cola. Most likely a parent made up this story to discourage their children from drinking milkshakes and coke.

No! That's just one of those silly urban legends. I worked for McDonald's in the 80s and the only thing we used was flavoring, ice cream & milk.

I don't know if that one's here but www.snopes.com is a great place to sort the truth from legends.

No it's not true. I expect someone told you this because every time you passed a McDonald's you shouted I WANT ONE like my kids do. So your Mum or Dad told you that story! Did it put you off? or did you still carry on having them?

False:

As for what's actually in a McDonald's shake, here's the 'McDonald's shake ingredients list'

Whole milk, sucrose, cream, nonfat milk solids, corn syrup solids, mono and diglycerides, guar gum, imitation vanilla flavor, carrageenan, cellulose gum, vitamin palmitate.
