I've read all the other really good and technical answers but my dryer doesn't seem to work like that. I use my dryer all the time cos I don't like washing hanging in the garden or anywhere else for that matter. My electric bill shot up when I started using it. I now pay £65 per month for electric and the dryer is the only thing I have that consumes a lot of electricity. The only other electric items I have are lights and the cooker but I don't use the cooker that much either if I can help it.

Having said that, I wouldn't be without my dryer for the reasons that you've rightly pointed out.

It depends on how much you pay for your electricity, assuming the average tumble dryer is around 2000 watts or 2kw then you multiply that by your kWh charge, I would guess about 25 pence an hour so you do 2 hours a day ( 50p ) and maybe 3 times a week (£1.50p ) = £ 6 a month = £36 a year.

I use mine now - I try to dry on the line but then always finish them off in the dryer - I would estimate I use around £30 - 40 per year

drying here things on hangers over my tub on one of those spring poles takes 24 hours. If I spin them first it takes a lot shorter time. Underwear can take only a few hours then. And if it's in the summer time it takes even shorter time. Year round I always have fans going in the bathroom so that I don't get mold in there so that's probably why things dry quick.

Medium heat, about 1.5-2.0 kw. Time - about 1.5 hours. Cost per Kwh- about 10-12p.

This equals maximum of 2 x 1.5 x 12p =36p per load. but with the thermostat cycling and any other variations taken into account a more realistic cost would be 20-25p per load.

Tumble driers use about 3000W @ 12p per unit =36p per hour
I always suggest that you buy a GAS tumble drier if you are connected. or a bottled gas drier if not connected.
These are faster and more efficient, and cost LESS to run.
