Yes. The new Democratic Congress re-enacted the Pay-As-You-Go system that Clinton used to balance the budget.

Basically, this system forces Congress to first show how they are going to fund any program, etc... before enacting legislation. IE, check and balance

Good question. The executive branch of government took more power to itself under Reagan but that was nothing compared to what Bush administration has taken. The problem is that congress refuses to do anything about it. In fact they vote to give Bush these powers he asks for.
Example: Today, Bush could accuse YOU of being an enemy supporter, have you arrested without a warrent, sent to any one of several prisons around the world, have you tortured - for years - no one knows what happened to you, you won't have a lawyer or a formal charge against you, a trial - nothing unless you can get word out that you've been detained.

This usurps the powers of the courts. Bush won't let his staff testify or answer supenas- openly defiying Congress. He protects terrorists groups such as "Blackwater" from prosecution. HE authorises illegal wiretaps, and other modes of illegal spying on the people.

Now he does this in the name of fighting "terrorismm" but in fact we aree creating more terrorism every day with our war in Iraq for no reason other than to get the rights to thier oil.

Congress might ***** abot these thing a little but they always grant him whatever he asks for which is whyh COngress has an even lower approval rating than Bush.

Frankly I htink we should dump the lot and start over.

the veto system cancelling the ridiculous antics of the pelosi reid regime regarding iraq. this was a chance for common sense to take hold and prevent the out of control actions of an extremist few to seriously endanger this country. reid knew going in the votes werent there but was too engrossed in grandstanding and posturing to give a rats .....
