Does the term "Jewish" refer to a race of people or a religion. I believe that Jewish refers to a person that practices and studies the religion of Judaism. They tell me it's a race. If it is a race...please humor me and tell me what country Jewish people come from. In my own humble opinion...a race of people share the same background and ancestry. For example Chinese people come from China. Whether you're Chinese-American or Chinese-Ethiopian, you're still Chinese. Don't you see the logic?

It is both actually originally they were a race hailing from a sub-province of Persia called Juda hence they called themselves Jewish and practiced Judaism(the religion) over the centuries it has been combined into one idea that Jewish or Jews are both so it has been accepted into modern ways. Any race can become a practitioner of Judaism but it still remains that Jewish correctly is a term for the race.

The term Jewish refers to both a religion and a race. From a religious standpoint, Jews are people who study Judaism. As for race, Jews are people from Israel. You're both half right.

It's a religion. I think the race idea comes from the Biblical reference to tribes and geneology of the peoples that adhered to the original idea of one God without form.
Actually by definition there are only four races - White, Red (Native American), Yellow, and Black. The word race is used pretty loosely to describe ethnics and country origins.

I believe it is a race as well. They were around for a long time before settling down, in what is now Isreal. Ask a Jew, they'll let you know better than I.

it is not a race
People of different races can be Jewish. You can either convert or are born into it if your parents are Jewish.
