Sledgehammer, target on your forehead, and a friend with a strong arm.

Really, the idea is not to get rid of memories. The memories we force out of our memory never really leave us and often haunt us. What we need to do is learn how to handle those memories and grow from them.

so far there are no ways of getting rid of memories.. your cognition is not like a computer that you allows you to delete files you think you don't need anymore.. if you are referring to bad memories, there are no sure way either.. our unconcious has its way of getting rid of memories through repression (accdg. to Freud). however, even repressed memories haunts people in the form of slips of the tongue and dreams.. so there's really no way you can get rid of it. unless you get into a head on collision so strong that you experience amnesia..
memories, good or bad are there to stay with us to teach us lessons we need to learn for our survival..

If its a particularly bad memory, your mind will eventually hide it from you, via regression. A psychologist can help with dealing with the underlining problem with the memory/actual event.

well, if they are good memories then you remember them with pictures and momentoes; and if they are bad memories you put them into perspective and move on. Find a way to conquer them. For instance, if someone was mean to you then to put that into perspective you could say to yourself, "they aren't mean to me because of something I did, but they are merely having a bad day".

why dont you try to live with it, learn from it, gain knowledge from your experience whether embarrassing/humiliating or traumatic.
dont let memories rule your life and try to remive them from it, instead make them part of your life, whether you like it or not they have impacted you and changed you for either better or worse.
you are the only erson with the ability to gove your memories power or take it away.

Not easy! Passage of time helps to heal the pain or trauma to a certain degree. No other substitute.

change the memory.....for example:Problem- I fell in love with my (whomever) and now I see them as perfect and desire to be with them even though they are gone.....I start to associate negative things with them and the memory. ie. I loved him/her and he/she wrote me a negative letter...every time you think of this person, think of the negative letter...assocoate them with the negative, it really works,
