Caustic soda. If that fails you'll have to call the professionals in, but try the caustic soda first, it'll be cheaper and should burn the blockage out

This, without seeing it has gone beyond a blocked drain. Don't want to alarm you but have you had the manhole cover off the manhole is full then you need to get the pipe jet washed by the likes of drain doctor. Not cheap!

use a decent local plumber who may be able to unblock and sort it out so that it never happens again.
The directory listed 'Unblock-it quick' companies may unblock but it is just as likely to happen again.
If finances are a problem for paying someone to do it the local plumber may say give us so much payment a week/month to pay the bill. Whatever, it sounds a bit heavy for a normal DIY job.
Everyone has a 'line' regarding DIY plumbing jobs and it sounds as though you have crossed it.

One thing to be very careful is the house could have lead drain lines being that old. You cannot just go hogging cables down through those drains in lead pipes or the cables will eat up the pipes, knock holes in them, etc, and then you have real problems.

Most towns or cities will come into your house and use a snaked drill from your house to the street to unclog the pipes. If it is elsewhere in your house or your area doesn't provide these services to their tax payers, then I suggest hiring a plumber to do it instead of hiring someone to clean up your cellar over and over again.

first you need to find the blocked manhole ..houses of this era used a system called a buchan trap .. this was built into the manhole ..it look like the s bend in a toilet ..it all so had rodding access above it .this normally has a lid ...you need to remove this lid to reduce the amount in the manhole ..then with a plunger you will to plunge the buchan trap to clear ..the trap its self cannot be rodded ...you may have more than one manhole ..the other ones will be roddable ....its the last one probably at the edge of your property that you need to find
