Clowns. As a former professional clown, I do not know anyone who can be sad around clowns. There are even Caring Clowns out there - trained to perform in hospitals for seriously ill children. Pax - C

This question is so subjective, it cannot be answered!

Just because a question is subjective that does not mean it cannot be answered rationally. Morality, religion, politics, philosophy are all subjective concepts which questions can receive answers.

But, what would alleviate the sadness of others? That's multiplying subjective actions by subjective thoughts by subjective ethics by subjective situations onto infinity.

Kudos, to Guru!

Philosophical questions are "Very" general in nature. One might ask why we should believe there are physical objects outside the mind? Or why we should believe that other people have minds?
This question makes those others seem specific. This is the first time I have ever seen a question that cannot be answered in reality, fantasy, truth, falsity, if/then conditionals, opinions, reasoned, or logically scrutinized....

It is one of a kind............

Sadness of you.
No kidding!
Most of the time sad people become more relaxed when see other people have also some problems to be sad about.
I've talked to lots of them. When i talked about positive thinking, happiness and such stuff, they got more depressed. The minute i started to talk about the sad anecdotes of my life, however, their grieve stated to alleviate.
Of course this doesn't hold true for all the crowd, just most of them, i guess.

Have a nice day.

First you must alleviate the sadness in yourself. Then you must reach out to those closest to you and help them consider doing so. Then helping them to consider reaching out to those who they are close to. A wave of assistance toward peace and understanding.

There are no guarantees here and it would take generations at the very least. But it would be a start.

Time. People to listen too. People/friends/family that will share their experience, Strength and hope. Listen to their sadness.

On the other hand I wouldn't trade the sadness that I have gone trough in my life because its part of living and made me the person I am today. To deny someones pain is to deny their growth or journey.

We cannot alleviate anyone else's sadness. We may have compassion for them, love them, and hope that they someday realize that within each of us is the source of our own joy.

The correct query should have been how to alleviate the sufferings of others! Every human being is the maker of ones destiny knowingly or unknowingly. Those who have a goal in life manifest destiny early. Those without a goal let loose life like a rudderless boat going round and round in the ocean!

Mahavira... the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism rightly said... Never preach anyone anything unless one becomes enlightened! To preach before gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) is living in a fools paradise... a cocoon of ones own making! Devoid of wisdom... such people bask in the false glory of self.

No human being truly can alleviate the sufferings of others unless the sufferer himself wants it done. The entire cosmic system is governed by the doctrine of karma... as we sow so shall we reap... nothing less or more! Our sufferings and happiness result from the karma enacted by us in the present or the past.

Under no circumstances can we blame anyone else for our sufferings or happiness. We are the absolute master and governor of our life. Every human being can manifest destiny provided one seriously goes after it! Living a life full of virtues... Human beings finally cross the ocean of Samsara (worldly life).

Dominated by ego, wanton desires and greed for materialistic riches most human beings never manifest destiny. Indulgence in vices and unethical practices cost them heavily... they loose control over life. Why indulge in the affairs of his! When everything in the cosmic system is governed by the laws of karma... why not enact good karma all the time!

If we are sad... it results from our negative thinking! Those with a sunny disposition and godly thinking always remain happy. Sufferings and happiness are part of life. When a rod is heated and beat... it is time for sufferings! When the shaped rod is immersed in a bucket of cold water... we experience happiness!

We continue experiencing happiness all the time... it can never be! Every feeling of unhappiness... every suffering stems from negative thinking! Exercising proper control over thoughts alleviates us out of the control of sufferings. Having a goal in life increases power of concentration... sufferings for such gradually reduce! I think that fewer lies, including fewer so-called 'white lies' would alleviate a lot of sadness.
