i've long said that if not for politics, this planet is so abundant that it could support 3X the current human population of the earth today, which would be 18 billion (18,000,000,000) people. it could feed, house, clothe, educate and medicate that many! but politics will not stop. people wish to follow leaders.

it seems as though people are letting it all fall apart. if i had a baby and no way to adequately feed and house it, i sure would not have another. what are people thinking, making all these kids?

we do not have viable energy alternatives in place whatsoever. so how then will we work and produce, because work is what keeps the money flowing.

humans take whatever they want out of the earth and from it, return garbage and toxic waste to the earth and to water.

where is fresh water for the current and ever rising population going to come from?

religion is the basis of so many wars. it seems like humans actually desire war.

what may happen to us?

EDIT TO justforthisonepost: what would YOU do about it? what can one individual do about it? get into the politics that cause humans to have even more problems because politicians are liars, self centered, and kiss butts of big business? about the only thing i can do as a single human being is to treat others the way i want to be treated, as a human being, who is capable and does make mistakes. i can try this way to make people feel happier, but i can't force them. i can have discussions with others, but that does not mean that they will listen to me. so, you did not answer: do you think that we have worn out our welcome be becoming so overpopulated given the political climate of the world? could it be that we will make ourselves extinct? how would we do that? global warming? nope. war, maybe. you say what you want. this is an open forum, and i have deliberately put this question here to get you to ... think.

I think this is a good question when you mention 18 billion and we are at 6 billion. Haven't seen population prediction models but need to take a look at those, maybe 100 years from now? Sooner? Don't know, but the point is we need to start thinking about space stations that are self-supporting and possibly colonizing say for example Mars, if possible. Terra-forming. Lets also not forget all the moons which are many times larger the the United States that astronomers know little about as possibilities.

It was my understanding Europa of Jupiter has oceans like 100 miles deep or something like that. I really don't know if there is oil on those planets or moons or some other natural resources that could be used as a power source.

Edit: additional research on population prediction models shows me it would really be another 200 or 300 years. Not sure astronomical prowess will keep pace. Though think of all the technology in the last 100 years for instance. Basically wipe out any indigenous life, use up all there natural resources, pollute the environment so the planet or moon is uninhabitable, and move on to the next world. Not that great a suggestion but what is the alternative? Population crash?

I agree that people who cannot take care of many kids should stop having them or be forced to stop having kids out of concern for the welfare of them. As for a religion being a basis for war, there are a lot of people so wrapped up in their religion that they think they are superior to everybody else who do not think like them and would even give their lives for their mislead concepts.

People want power and they want money. They don't care if the poor family down the street can't afford Tylenol for their aching backs after they work 16 hour a day jobs for minimum wages. People want to be told what to do. God tells them what to do. "Society" and "Ethics" tell them what to do. It doesnt seem that humans desire war, it's obvious in some of today's world "leaders" that they DO want war. Let them pollute our world. Then as we all sit in our deathbeds we can be thinking "I told you so".
