My Compaq (Presario SR1810NX with XP Home Ed, 1.5GB DDR 3200 RAM, 100GB HD) computer came with an all-in-one mobo (i.e., 256MB graphics, 32-bit audio chips; on-board modem and ethernet connection) when I bought the whole system April of last year. And while I was enjoying HP's year-long manufacturer's warranty then, I already tried to inquire which nVidia video card(s) works fine with my PC, but I never did learn anything new without buying from their online store? I understand also that today's newer graphics cards may just prove incompatible to last year's specs but I still wish to know from others who happened to own the same PC I use. Your feedback is most appreciated. Thanks!

Your computer has a PCI express X16 slot. The 7300GT is a very slow video card by todays standards.

I recommend the X1650PRO instead. It is only $10 more and about 70% faster.

My opinion for a new video card:
For playing the latest games a FRAPS (frames per second) of 50 or higher
For moderate games a FRAPS of 30 or more.
For no games a FRAPS of 18 or more
Refer to:

Per
Graphics card gaming performance charts:

8800 GTS ($269+) FRAPS=102.2
8600 GTS ($133+) FRAPS= 53.6
X1650PRO ($39.99) FRAPS = 30.8
7300 GT ( $24.99) FRAPS = 18.3
FRAPS = Frames per second (higher is better)

Many gaming video card's (such as 8600 and 8800) amperage and power requirements require a larger power supply be installed.

your using agp 8x card . (which is a bit old) . 450w or more power will only be needed for greater performance vgas that are compatiable with pci express slots . since your card is agp its going to be orite . for your knowledge i had a old computer about a year ago which i ran a 3 ghz lga intel processor , 2 gb ddr 2 ram , with a 8500 gt 512 mb pci express vga card with a 350 w power supply . so for your system i guess 400 w is more than enough . so no worries .
