I hold my ceremony about 3 PM With a select group of Wiccan Friends and one or two other Pagan members. I have built a LARGE bonfire of wood with a platform on top, to burn John Barleycorn in effigy (Who has been made up for about two weeks and standing guard over the pumpkin that will become his head). I move the effigy to the front door after my ritual and he can greet to children as they come to beg for candy, It seems the Witch's House is THE place to go on Haloween because I answer the door in FULL Formal array, cape and all. I have a few slight of hand tricks that the little ones LOVE to see and then they get to reach into the "Cauldron of Unending Sweets", and remove a handful of what ever they can grab. They love it because they have to do it blind and without peeking, They always enjoy the surprises that they get. Then they get to take a drink from the "magickal smoking "Pot of Blood Brew"" Which is nothing more than Hawiian Punch with a chunk of Dry Ice it it to make it bubble and smoke.
About 8 PM<, it's the aduls' turns. I prepare a full feast of party foods, LOTS of fun music, oftentimes LIVE music (I have a lot of very talented frineds). The Cowens start filtering in and the Witches end up breaking out their cards and doing numerous Tarot readings. Wine and Mead flow like water. About 10 PM, it's time to toss John Barleycorn onto the bonfire with GREAT ceremony. He is executed for the GROSS crimes of Calling Forth Winter and Banishing Summer, Causing an end to the bountiful harvest and killing all the palnt life with his chilly breath.
Now, John Barleycorn is NOT simply a "dummy made of corn husks and fully clothed. He is composed of not only that but a FEW added ingredients, his pumpkin head's eyes are lined with Magnesium Ribbon to burn VERY brightly when it catches fire, and his pockets are stuff with firecrakcers to make his body explode (harmlessly of course) and his hands have been outfitted with Roman candles for fingers, so that he shoots balls of colored fire into the air as the bonfire begins to roar. the Top of his head has been filled with a fireworks display which starts to go off around the time his eyes start glowing. As the Bonfire dies down over the next few hours of merrrymaking, the "Fire Master" begins applying his Magick Powders to the coals to make HUGE Green And Blue and Red flames.
The gathering usually breaks up about Midnite, soon after the group seance calling forth the spooky dead from the year before. Those who are too drunk to drive either get driven home or get to spend the night on the "Altar of Sacrifice". the First one to pass out gets the typical Immature treatmen of shvaing cream in the hand and the light tickle under the nose. You know the drill on that one. As each person prepares to either leave or find a place to sleep they write down ONE bad habit or some negative thing about themselves that they wish to banish. the slips of paper are added to the Jack-O-Lantern and as the last one is added the Lantern is tossed onto the bonfire to send their negativity up in smoke.. The next day is spent cleaning up, raking the remaining coals in a pile to finish burning.
And THAT is how THIS Green Witch celebrates Samhain.

YAY Samhain!
I'm actually planning a party this year. Well first of all my ideal party would be on Samhain (I have to plan the party the weekend before sense Samhain is on a week day and it's the one time everyone can get together). First there would be an excellent meal with lots of lovely things to eat. Once we are done eating we would go outside for some pumpkin carving, taort readings, ect. Then once it got dark I think we would all go trick or treating depending on the area! Then once we made our way back we would of course have ritual. The ritual would be to honor the dead, celebrate the new year and reflect on the past year and what we want to work on this year. This year me and a fiew friends will be holding ritual/party the weekend before then on Sahmain I'll be going trick or treating with my Harry Potter club (Goddess I'm such a dork ^_^) because we meet on Wednesdays anyway and we go every year. I can't wait..I'm excited now!
Blessed Be

well to everyone this wouldn't be your ideal party.. I do not drink or party so this is my plan and it's perfect to me.. I have been planning it for awhile now..
My daughter has become interested in Wicca this past year or so and I have been teaching her , giving her things to read, web sites to go to, showing her how to make a BOS ect..
So my plan for Samhain is to of course have a family dinner with a place setting for my sister who crossed over in January so that we can remember her and include her in the feast of the new year.
.. then I am going to take my daughter outside.. Show her how to Cleanse her runes.. teach her how to cast a circle, invoke the Goddess and perform our first ritual together.. It is going to be a busy night for us but I am so looking forward to this and it will be a beautiful experience for my daughter and a wonderful bonding between us..
What better party could there be?
Blessed Be

Hmm... FIRST, there has to be an awesome ritual beforehand. Lot of energy, etc. Then there must be a door-to-door celebratory feast. Like everyone has a ton of great food and they open their houses and let others in to celebrate and share. And of course trick or treating, for the benefit of the little kids more interested in snickers bars than anything else.
