It's a cry for attention. Cats don't like to play second fiddle to ANYONE, especially when it's a computer:-)

because they know that is where your immediate attention is focused on and they feel that if they get in between you and the computer, then you will be forced to give them the attention that they want.

I use to have a really big sheep dog, who was the type of dog that always got his way, and whenever I was watching the stock reports on the TV early in the morning, the dog would position himself between me and the TV screen, and as big as he was, you couldn't see the screen of the TV when he was standing in front of it.

My cat, if you want to call a full grown Puma a cat, likes to sneak up on me while I am watching the TV and with one fell swoop, the remote is gone and Goldfish has it in her mouth and beating a hasty retreat out the backdoor. This causes me to stop what I am doing and go chasing after her, which is exactly what she wants me to do and if I don't catch her and quickly, the remote gets chewed up into tiny pieces. I don't know how many remote controls I have had to buy to keep up with her habit of doing this.

Aren't having pets GREAT?

Mine does the very same thing (grrrr) it's maddening and funny at the same time cuz she's really trying to get More attention!!
She's actually sat and layed on the keyboard hoping that I'll pay attention to her!!! Plus she goes back and forth when I'm trying to play a game (with limited time to take your turn) and needless to say ~ I can't even see because she's 18 lbs so then I'm trying to look over and around her............
K ~ I'm ending this now before she comes in.......OMG! Here she comes............

My little Emma does the same thing. If she stands on the keyboard long enough it starts beeping and it scares her so she gets down. Generally when she does this I just stop everything until she's done because she's not always open to a petting so I take it when I can get it.

The cat could care less about the machine. It understands your habits and knows when the little "windows" song plays, you'll be there in a few seconds. Doesn't want the machine, it wants you! After you go to bed, they go on line and tell the other cats in their network what a crummy mommy you are! LOL!

I hate it when they do that! Last time my cat crawled on my keyboard while I was typing, I was in the middle of typing an answer and whatever keys he hit took me to another page. By the time I navigated back here, I couldn't remember exactly what I'd said in my answer. I was so mad.

They want your attention, they see it go to the keyboard and screen, so they get where you have to notice them.

Spoiled things aren't they. Make a place for them on your lap, rub their cheeks and under their chin for a bit. Type with one hand. That should help a little while.

When you find out why yours likes to crawl across the keyboard, please tell me why Max, (also a cat) has to either sit on the mouse pad or right on my lap, but only when I want to use the computer.

They know once you are on the computer they will have a hard time getting your attention to be on them. They figure...I better go get some love before she gets too involved with that machine.

Probably for the same reason they like to sit on your
paper when you are trying to read or write. I love cats
as you never know what they will do next. I no longer
have pets because I have asthma. Enjoy your pet--
maybe she wants to learn how to use it?? lol : }
