I live in rural Kentucky, but make the trek to Louisville between 10-25 times a month for school, socializing, and what have you. I'm used to the drive, it doesn't bother me.
I work at a Wal-Mart in my rural town. Whenever there's a product we don't have, I often have to recommend that people have to drive to the next town up (we have 10,000, the next town has 30,000 population.) People go ballistic because they have to drive only TEN MILES to this next town because they hate the "big city attitude" and "big city traffic." I don't call any Kentucky city "big," I'm sorry.
Why do you suppose small towners can't stand big (or, "big") cities? Also, if small-towners are supposed to be so friendly, then why are small towns typically closed-society type of places that shun outsiders? That doesn't seem friendly.

Small town life is so relaxing, not so busy. People are nicer, everybody waves, in south dakota, even if you don't know them, they got their hand out the window, waving away, and everybody talk to ya like they know ya. Your neighbors are your friends, life simple nothing wrong with that. The largest town by me is about 16,000 people and one we live closer too is about 156 people, corn, wheat, soy bean fields, hog confinements for miles. Big cities, buildings, cars, crime....? just my opinion...life is good...

I lived in Louisville for 17 years, up until 5 years ago, and then I moved to a rural town. I go back to see friends every few months, but the traffic is soo different, it's almost overwhelming, I'm not used to so many people either. The clerks in the store in Louisville are definitely friendlier, when you live in a city there are strangers everywhere so it's easy to learn to be friendly to strangers, in a small town when you see the same 2000 people over and over again I guess a stranger stands out. Both places have their good and bad points. In Louisville I can't leave my packages in my car with my windows rolled down, I can in a small town. Down here I don't have to worry about someone breaking into my apartment or stealing my car. I could keep my door unlocked for two months and no one would break in. Of course there's no art galleries or coffee houses, there's few stores and restaurants. But I can take a walk without worrying about getting mugged.

Well i'm from a small rural town in New Zealand, and i have lived in the big cities as well and i can say that i hate going to the big cities as they smell from all the petrol, people are always in a hurry(to get nowhere lol), its just a mad scene, and the small towns are more laid back, eveyone knows everyone, they are friendly over here, we all do the speed limit which is kinda nice, and the air is much cleaner than the bigger cities, its nice to look at cows and sheep or whatever and its relaxing, not like looking at tall buildings and hearing people abusing others on the road, yup thats why i will never live in a big city ever again.

People pick small towns to live in for a reason...it is to get away from the busy fast paced people, even though 30,000 is still a baby town. The "attitude" theyre talking about is probably just the hurry. Yeah I guess it's a bit hypocritical of them to be unfriendly. I live in a bit of a small town (55,000) and I love big cities so I dont really get why people like being so isolated

Because they are so evolved in their community to think outside the square, they only think that is all the world has to offer, they dont know half of the things that go on in this world and sucked in to them!
