Uh.
i believe that ...uhh... Gee. I don't really know.

But I thought that if the mother was on medication and the baby was born by C-section, the risk of the baby contacting the HIV was reduced? err.. I could be wrong, but that was my thinking?

Well, I suppose she shouldn't have been in a position to get pregnant anyway (what about the person she was having sex with? She doesn't want to pass it on to someone else... including a fetus) There are cases where the mother will give birth to a baby w/o passing HIV but I couldn't stand living with the idea that I knowingly passed HIV to another human being. It's torture for the child and so unfair. If for some reason (and it would have to be rape becuase I would never take the chance of getting pregnant if I had HIV) I would abort the baby very early even though I think it's an awful thing to do.

The baby doesn't have a high possibility of being HIV+; in fact, the baby has a very low possibility of being HIV+ if the mother gets the proper medical care and follows the doctors advice for precautions. Sounds a bit like HIV+ is being used as an excuse to have a guilt-free abortion. Sorry - it just doesn't wash.

There are medical advances these days that a woman HIV positive can have a baby with only 1% chance of getting the disease. The woman has to take meds while she is pregnant

Women with HIV can have perfectly healthy babies. They have to have a c-section to prevent blood to blood exchange during the birth. Sometimes the baby will be HIV + at birth, but once their own anti-bodies kick in they are HIV -.

actually with medicine, the baby has a less than 2 percent chance of contracting hiv from her mother at birth. she may have to refrain from breast feeding however. if an hiv mother wants to give birth, she should definitely do it, provided she has relatives and friends to help her take care of her child should she become sick or perhaps die. also a c-section is not necessary.

We are not God. Dr's are not always right. The baby can be born without HIV. And if the baby *is* born with HIV, it's life can still impact others, teach others, love others, and not have as much sorrow as you seem to believe. I believe that baby would have a purpose here on earth and needs to be here to live it.

A C-section will prevent the possibility of blood transfusing from the mother to the child

I don't think people should keep posting questions about abortion in the pregnancy category when there are SO many women out there who are trying to conceive and so many women who cannot have babies. I don't think they should continually have to read questions about abortion! (especially hypothetical ones!) next time try POLLS & SURVEYS.
