My husband is in the Army and every Thanksgiving we always invite all of his single soldiers to our house, no matter what base we are stationed at...since the majority of us are thousands of miles away from our familys. We have a huge Thanksgiving and let his soldiers be a part of our family for the day. Last Thanksgiving is the first time in the past 14 years we havent done it...because my husband and his Soldiers are in Iraq doing a 15 month deployment. But this year we will have a huge Thanksgiving dinner because my husband returns from Iraq a few days before Thanksgiving!!

I by no ability have enjoyed Thanksgiving. maximum of my family contributors lives 4 hours away and a good style of of them i don't recognize. Then there is the consistent bickering. in particular approximately politics yet now and returned approximately issues that don't count like movies or books. all of them act like boastful recognize-it-alls. This 12 months, even nonetheless, I even have scheduled myself to paintings Thanksgiving. Then i'm going to make my own dinner and watch soccer. lots greater non violent.

It actually might be better to go get some grub and go to the pub or just order in some pizza and watch movies with other friends who can't make it home.

Another idea is asking if you can go to a close friend's Thxgiving. It's always fun to meet new people!

Good luck! I'm an American in Australia so I'm def gonna miss my first year w/o Thanksgiving!

i'd watch movies, get some pizza or make sum mac n cheese (or watever your comfort food is) and just hang out. that's what thanksgiving is about...laying about, eating, and usually being around ppl u love, so have a friend over or...if you're in sort of a apartment building and you dont' mind old ppl...ask a nice elderly neighboor who also can't see family or something come join you... =) i'm sure they'd love that, and you'd have company.. =D cheers and hope u have a good thanksgiving.

as long as I can see my daughter it's all good. I really don't dig the holidays anymore. Family have all year to either call you or visit you,all of a sudden they wanna see you on thanksgiving and Christmas.

Kinda like people only visit a grave on a b-day,mother/fathers day and Xmas, but never visit the site any other time. goes to show you how much people care or cared for you huh?

If you have any friends or coworkers who are also unable to visit their families, invite them over for dinner.

Otherwise, you can volunteer to feed the homeless. However, this is a pretty common thing to do so they may be full.

Last option, make a few of your favorite foods and spend the holiday alone with some movies.

Host a dinner at your place for friends and their friends who aren't spending it with their families. That way there will be new people to meet. Get everyone to bring a dish so it's not so much work on you. Or you can even order some take out. Celebrate with people you care about - and that doesn't always mean family.

I have been in that position. Let your friends know you aren't going home. I have had Thanksgiving at many friends homes and it was a great experience. Many people invite others to join them. I'm doing that this year. I'm going with a friend to see her family (I've never met them) and spend the 4 day weekend with them.

When I'm unable to get to my family I try to see if any of my close friends are available and set up a "friends" Thanksgiving. The next best thing to family is good friends.

Order pizza and prop up some large pink and blue stuffed animals around a table. Name them after members of your family, like Mom, Dad, Uncle Joe etc.... Say a prayer and then watch football with the blue stuffed animals while the pink ones do the dishes.
