Many people through out time have and still do ask the question: "What is the meaning of life?" Perhaps I am wrong, but when this question is asked I assume that the individual means is there a meaning, reason, or purpose to justify all life. If this is what people mean, my question is do you believe there can be one meaning, purpose, or reason that justifies all lives? Do you believe that there are several meanings, purposes, or reasons that justify all lives? Or do you believe that there are no reasons, meanings, or purposes that can justify all lives and that there can only exist meanings, purposes, and reasons that can apply to individual's lives, not all?

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
Russell was a 20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate. He was an atheist but understood that purpose implied an intelligent Designer with a plan and that meant God.
Without God, there is no purpose, meaning or point to life. When people claim they invent their own purpose, what they are really saying is that they have found something to do that makes them feel good about themselves (inflates their ego) and/or makes them forget about their pointless existence.
If we admit God might exist, then we can see that He must have put our need for purpose and meaning into our human nature to point us to seek Him. So seeking God and finding Him is our purpose and all meaning comes through that. Christians believe we find God through obeying His command to love our neighbors for where love is, there God is also.

Life is full of suffering, but it is worth living. Every child born has the opportunity to make a profound difference in our world. Look at what we as a species have accomplished in just the last few centuries. We've surpassed every other living thing on earth in terms of intelligence and critical thinking. None of this would be possible if we chose to spare our children the struggles of life. Human life is still in it's infancy, and yes we are going to make a lot of mistakes before we get things right. But we are getting closer and closer with each generation. The answer isn't to stop having children, that would be easy. What we need to do is take the time and make sure we instill our best values, wisdom, and virtues onto our future generations

If a human being does not ask this question in life then they are no less than an animal as for as consciousness. Animals eat sleep, mate and defend as do humans, but we have the intelligence to question our existence. IF we misuse this rare opportunity then we can glide down to lower species in our next life. In a nut shell- We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy.
For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com you can read it on line.

I exist because my parents had sex. We can construct all sorts of arguments to some greater purpose, some master plan, some design schema, but the truth, they had sex one night and I was the product of that interaction.
"What is the point?" is usually an indication of hopelessness and helplessness. We are, thus far, the only species that sits around entertaining such musings. Other species live rather than question why they exist, why they are alive or what to do with their lives.

Life needs no justification, yet we each have our own unique reasons for being.
