No other country acts in such an arrogant way as the USA does.
We have a military presence on every continent on the globe, no other country even holds a candle to that.
In 2005 a congressional study was released that stated we sell 35% of the world arms. Some studies put that as high as 60%. Again, no other country even comes close to that.
What I fail to understand, is so many think our $hit doesn't stink, but if another country would do the same we'd be screaming for their heads and an invasion forthwith.
We have a huge military machine to feed. I have said this a thousand times, when it comes to war and conflict, don't listen to the rhetoric, follow the money. Those are the people who have a vested interest to keep up the hate.
Peace
Jim

It doesn't matter what I'd think. We have bases the world over for a reason. We have them in Japan, Germany, and Korea because they were needed as ways to prevent further conflicts. We have other bases in countries that are our allies that want a US military presence there. If China's military was invited to have a base in America I'd have no problem. If China attacked us and we surrendered and part of the treaty was to have a permanant Chinese presence in America, well I'd have to deal with it.
This type of question is pure propganda without any knowledge of history. If the US scaled down it's miltary presence the world over it wouldn't be long before chaos broke out, with either one country invading another, or the inability of American cartakers to speedily enter a country rocked by a natural disaster.

Actually, considering that we have so many foreign banks, car manufacturers and other large corporations in America, many which have taken American jobs; if it were sold to us effectively by our politicians I bet the Chinese could and would build a military base in America.
They could build one in Oklahoma or Alabama or someplace where they would hire a couple of hundred Americans to mow the grass and do the laundry, which would improve the local economy.

Umm... that's not a question, but anyway... There is a large difference. I saw a poll made in after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan (I don't really want to hunt it down right now) that stated that ~90% of people were happier under the current rule than under the Taliban. So a more comparable question would be "What if Great Britan had a permenant base in the U.S.?", with that I would say "Great, now both the militaries can help each other better." Also, before we were attacked in 2001, where did we have bases? Certainly not close to their most holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

This is a very good question. I've tried to get my friends who have called me unpatriotic for not supporting the U.S. when it sends our military into other countries without any regard for their culture & seemingly without a care about how they might feel about us being there. Or when I make reference to the book "The Ugly American".
I don't think a lot of Americans would put up with any other country having an established military presence in the USA.
What's that saying - "do unto others as you would like them to do unto you." Occupation of other countries didn't work for the Romans, why should it work for the USA? History just keeps on being repeated.

Not HALF as much- as if the US had a permanent military base in China (which has 4 TIMES our population!). :)

I suspect it's less about military matters than business and social ones. We aren't going to leave, and that's that. I can perfectly understand how they feel. That in no way means I'm willing to go along with them. There's just no connection between the two.

Actually she's not confused at all!
The world is and has changed a great deal. Our governement as it stands right now is not stable enough to trusted. We have allowed our election process to be tainted by having leaders like we have now run our country. As much as anyone may not want to believe the selfish reasons we are in Iraq, the motives of the United States can not be trusted! Emerging countries in the new world of the internet and mass communication want to believe that they too can exist truly independant.
What will it really take for things to change???....Its going to take new leaders to arrise in our country as well as others to see that we all have to do things and respect each other differently than we have be doing. The old saying that "the masses cannot be ignored" is so true! We as a people as well as those in other countries must stand up and speak out...and most of all...vote...vote ...vote!!! This time around nothing can be assumed. We know now that mad men do exist in the United States, and that they can become president and vice president.
It will take more of us like yourself that can look outside the US and understand the rest of the world to speak up and be heard to help change how the rest of the world sees us!

The world's Muslims are angry with the USA because we support the nation of Israel, with material support, financial support and political support.
Building bases in foreign countries has nothing to do with why the Muslim world hates the USA>
Besides this, your question requires a very detailed and drawn out answer that would take several minutes to answer correctly and the end does not justify the means.
2points for an answer and 10 additional points for best answer equals only 12 points, I am sorry but this does not warrant my time in a constructive manner.

there was a time when the world knew two super powers. the u s represented the free world and the u s s r represented communism. i would think that the permanent bases that you speak of were established and found necessary in that era. they wouldn't be there if there weren't an agreement of some nature.
today we have one super power to speak of. that is not to say that the free world is free of potential or real adversaries. so these bases that you speak of may be a necessary evil. there will be opposing voices to any condition where peace is utilized.
