I don't know what experience you have with volunteers but I feel that everyone has an obligation to pay back to thier community or society and you do that through volunteer work. It's one way to make the world a better place. . .I don't think your everyone includes many people that have any experience at all.

I don't think it's that they think volunteers are good for nothing, I think its that don't know how to explain how to do certain things to new volunteers or don't think they have time to explain things so they give the volunteers mundane tasks. If you want to do more as a volunteer you need to speak up and ask.

Only the people who selfishly believe in helping themselves to all the free benefits out there. They think volunteers are weak, easy and dumb just like them. I am proud to volunteer with several organizations and don't really give a hoot what these people think of me. I know I make a difference and that's good enough for me.

I've never heard anybody say volunteers are usless and good for nothing.... I'd hate to hear that because I volunteer a lot of my time to extra-curricular activities at my college. Every event we put on I can tell people are having fun so how can that be?

Its very untrue but there's an assumption that if you're willing to do this for free, its because you don't yet know what your doing well enough to get paid for it.

In reality, the spirit of volunteerism is one of our knobelist traits. Its your way of saying I may not be able to contribule a lot of money, but I believe in this cause so I will contribute with the sweat of my brow, I will give of my time!

THAT HASN'T BEEN MY EXPERIENCE AT ALL. WITHOUT THE EFFORT OF VOLUNTEERS THIS COUNTRY WOULD BE IN TERRIBLE SHAPE. THEIR WORK IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL IN HOSPITALS, HOMELESS PROGRAMS, THE RED CROSS, MUSEUMS, POLICE DEPARTMENTS, LIBRARIES, RECOVERY PROGRAMS, CHARITY THRIFT SHOPS, AND MANY OTHER AREAS. I THANK GOD EACH DAY THAT THERE ARE SO MANY GENEROUS AMERICANS WHO GIVE OF THEIR TIME AND MONEY TO HELP OTHERS.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A NATIONAL HOLIDAY TO HONOR THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH TO THEIR COMMUNITIES.
