Multiply both sides of the equation by 6 ... that's the least common multiple of 2 and 3, and it will get rid of the fractions to let you deal with whole numbers.

6(1/2n + 6) = 6(1/3n)
3n + 36 = 2n Move n to one side, number to the other.
n = -36

Check
1/2(-36) + 6 = 1/3(-36)
-18 + 6 = -12
-12 = -12 Correct!

get all n's on one side--------> 6= 1/3n - 1/2n
make them so they have the same denomantor----------------> 6= 2/6n-3/6n
subtract them---------> 6= -1/6n
divide by -1/6(multiply by the recprical)----->-12=n

answer------------------> n= -12
