If you have not done this experiment yet, you should reconsider it. If you add sugar to the water that planaria are in, it's going to have the same effect as adding salt. The water concentration will be affected, the solution will be hypertonic for the planaria, and the planaria's cells will lose water so the planaria die. Your science project should not injure the study specimens.

Instead of adding sugar, try testing to see if they tend to move to a darker area or a brighter area. Or do they move uphill or downhill? Do they go under a rock or stay out in the open? If you put red paper around one side of the container, do they choose that side or do they choose the side with black paper, .. or blue or yellow? Do they spend more time on a rough surface or a smooth surface? If one side of the container is floored with glass and one side is floored with plastic, does it influence how much time they spend there?
