I have not heard any of the major Pres. candidates (Dems or Repubs) talking about restoring our rights, taken away by the Patriot Act: Have you heard any talk ? If so, by whom ?

Thanks, Joe

"nolajazzyguide": You're right, both of these candidates are for the restoration of the Constitution. I also noticed that Ron Paul attacks the root of the problem: The Federal Reserve System. Unfortunately, six U.S. Pres. that have attempted to dismantle the "Fed", and bring us back to a "semi gold standard", including JFK, have been killed. Those International Bankers, behind the Federal Reserve Banks, are not about to let their power and control over us go without another terrible fight first.

I say this as a man that served in Special Forces for 8 years, three of them in Vietnam...I volunteered for VNam 5 times...we no longer live in a free country.

For those morons that say "There is nothing wrong with the Patriot Act unless you have something to hide," you have mental ability less than Bart Simpson. Pay attention to what I am about to say...it may require you to think, and I know you may not be used to that...but they sell aspirin at the store.

The Laws they enacted as part of the "Patriot Act" may not seem to directly affect you. You may not even notice their effects on your freedoms, but some day, when your head is where it should be, you may say to yourself, "Hey...I live in a police state!" Then you may wish to try to get your freedoms back, if not for you, for your kids.

Then you'll find your every move is watched. If you change your routine, they will know it and watch you closer. You may loose your job if you still have one....Paranoia, you say, take a look at what is happening in Burma(Myanamar), what happened in East Germany, Nazi Germany and any number of places.

Are you aware of a classified program named "Carnevore?"

If the American people knew what really happened at Waco to the Branch Davidians and then what our internationalist government leaders have planned for us, they would be terrifyed.

This so called war on terrorism is being used as a vehicle to destroy our freedoms. How did they come up with a 900 page legal document 3 days after 9-11? Then they didn't give congress time to review it before demanding a vote. They now call those 900 pages "The Patriot Act."

If we are involved in a war on terror, why don't they stop the invasion coming across our border?

The more rights we let them take away, the more blood it will take to get them back.

Those people in Burma were peacefully protesting government oppression. The army opened up on them with assault rifles. The Burmese can't own firearms. We, on the other hand still have that dwindling right.

Republican or democrat, once that power is achieved it is not easily retracted. People that run for political office have at least a small desire for power. Take a hard look at your congress. All those 'lifers" have achieved power of some kind. And they use it. Bridges to nowhere. Four lane highway that 100 cars a day don't travel on, welfare to the oil industry, that are profiting BILLIONS each quarter, etc.. etc.. These things are all an exercise of power. Power achieved, power used! Your civil liberties are no different. As you lose them the government becomes more & more capable of taking just a little more. It is like growing old, all of a sudden you are old. As with your rights, all of a sudden they are gone. GONE. GONE. Just a little at a time!!!!

Because when we ask for actual evidence, all you can come up with is the NDAA. which has been in effect for years, through both Republican and Democratic presidents, but which you claim only started under Obama. Some of you claim to be paranoid about protesting at his campaign sites, while ignoring the fact that George Bush simply didn't allow anyone in his sites that had not been vetted first as a supporter. Because you have been screaming since he was elected that he wanted to take away your guns, and you still believe that with four years of evidence to the contrary. When you come up with actual valid criticism, and we understand that Obama is not perfect, so we'll discuss that, get back to us. Meanwhile, feel free to pretend that because we disagree with your hatred of him we want our rights taken away!

Joe you complain about the Patriot Act, but where is the complaint that cell phone companies are going to begin monitoring your calls to tailor ads to your speech? Where is the complaint that GM can track your vehicle with GPS? Haven't we given up rights knowingly?

What CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT were you robbed of by this act?

I just read it, and your issue was not addressed.

When you click "send" on Yahoo, a free site which you use of your own free will, everything you typed is a saved version of your thoughts owned by Yahoo. If you don't trust them or your phone company, which I never did, have your "sensitive" conversations in person the way they were meant to be.

I guess you have not noticed actual rights that have been taken away, not by the patriot act but through the actions for organizations like the ACLU.

GREAT question. Looks like the candidates don't want to touch anything like that because it's too controversial. You could be right, the rights may have been taken away from us for good, all because the scared politicians don't want to risk their good (ha, ha) reputation.

How many of the Presidential candidates are or were Congressmen? Congress is the people who passed the Patriot Act.
Having said that, it is also true that you have lost nothing unless you are a terrorist, that is the idea.

Of course the candidates don't talk about giving back power -- once the power has been claimed by the govt, the govt will hold onto that power.

We only have those rights we choose to defend -- and once they are taken away from us, we must take them back -- they will almost certainly not be voluntarily given back to us.
