I'm 32 and my dad is 50. Last year he was in his 40's while I was in my 30's.
I may not be the best to ask.

Austin is a great place to live, but offers less for tourists than Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, or the coast. It has great neighborhoods, laid back lifestyle, outdoor life (biking, hiking, boating, climbing), and a good bar/club scene. There are a few 'touristy' things, such as the State Museum, the Capital, UT, and a couple of art museums. Also, some of the nearby areas offer a lot, such as Fredrichsberg, San Marcos, and Brennem.
Dallas/Fort Worth - Museums, Six Flags, food.
Houston/Galviston - NASA, Battleship Texas, San Jacento, the beach
San Antonio - Alamo and other missions, river walk, Fiesta Texas
Corpus Christi/Padre Island - Beaches, aquarium, aircraft carrier Enterprise
