Since Bush won, I figure his family and friends and all the Evangelicals. HAD the intelligent people voted, he could not have entered a 2nd term. It would not have been possible. After his first election, I do not believe any voting numbers. They're rigged.
I do not believe last election offered a good choice of candidates on either side. Both parties better get it right this time because the problems of the US have gotten the attention of lots more voters like myself who weren't old enough last time.
We need to take out the trash in government by voting for people willing to put US Citizens FIRST.

142,070,000 people were registered to vote in 2004, and 125,736,000 people actually voted in the 2004 presidential election out of 215,694,000 eligible citizens in the United States. You can find these statistics on the U.S. Census Bureau website. Just go to www.census.gov.
The real question is how many people will turn out in 2008 and will you be one of them? Don't forget to register! : )

A record number of people voted because more than just the president was running for office. A record number of Senators' and Congressmen/women's seats were up for election.
Here are the complete details and breakdowns by race, state, ethnicity, etc. from the government.
http://www.census.gov/prod/2006pubs/p20-556.pdf
*Total number of people over age 18 who voted in 2004:
125,736 million
Total number registered to vote over age 18 in 2004:
142,070 million
Total number of citizens over age 18 in 2004:
197,005 million
54,935 million citizens did not register to vote.
16,334 million registered citizens did not vote.
I'm sure some of these numbers of non-voters or not registered and over 18 years of age are from people in nursing homes, in hospitals or traveling.
People still don't understand that each vote really does count. Each person who is able to vote needs to use their right to vote before they loose it.

Me. Straight Republican ticket.
Will do the same in 2008, 2012, 2016, and on and on and on, until the Dem's stop pushing gun control and "Thought" Crime legislation.
I don't mind government spending a little money helping folks out, but this should never be at the expense of basic freedoms. Government is not our parents.

Nobody voted for president. The electoral college does that. Your vote only tells the electoral college for your state how to vote....

I think there was a record turnout despite the fact that "YOUNG voter turnout" (18-25) was much lower than anticipated.
