It's a little off. The white kids did not say yes as per hanging out under the tree; that was the school administration. The kids hanging the nooses were disciplined via suspension and the local prosecutor came in and spoke via assembly that this sort of thing and especially violence would not be tolerated ("I can be your friend or your worst enemy"). Six kids attacked another who had no connection to the noose after he called them a name and beat him unconscious for racial reasons. These kids were first charged with attempted murder but the charges were dropped to assault. Because the noose incident incited heightened tensions, the black community feels the charges were too stiff however, I personally know a white teen serving jail time for PUSHING another. My take is that the prosecutors office and the school officials have acted properly and the charges would not be different if it were six whites versus a single black but a vocal minority within a minority needs to spin these sorts of incidents to justify the existence of their organizations.

I believe at this point, the issue has become more divisive in that it has led to the arson of the main Jena High School building, some abrasive comments from the local District Attorney towards the student body, and a series of other racially-motivated incidents. The town of Jena has increased in population 500% since the incident based solely on media, protest, and supporting presences in the town, which no doubt has contributed to a racially tense situation.

That's it in a nutshell. It really shows how little the heads of the civil rights movements have to do if all they can do is protest for a bunch of worthless thugs, don't you think? I'd tell Jesse Jackson and Al sharpton to get out of their expensive tailored suits and actually start helping people who really deserve it. Go pound a nail in a Habitat for Humanity house Al!! You need the exercise anyway!!

Three nooses in the school colors were hung from the tree.
The white kids were expelled, but the expulsion was revoked because it was a "harmless prank". In all honesty, that is a hate crime and they should be jailed.
The one white kid who was beaten was taken to the hospital.
He recovered in a few hours, and was seen socializing later on the same day.
Some white kids started fights with black kids as well.
The white kids werent charged with anything, while the black kids were charged with attempted murder.

well, yes that is the basic story and yes the black community does think its a bad thing that the kids are on trial. The black kids were provoked byt the hanging nooses and the white kids who did it were hardly given pnishmnet for hwta they did. While the black kids were in wrong the jump one kid, it is also wrong that those white kids didnt get their deserved punishment and thats what the contoversitiy is about.

each of these incidents were separate and not related, the six black kids jumped and attacked one solitary white kid in response to their racist anger against whites. They are on trial for aggravated assault with intent to kill because they continued to beat the solitary white boy after he was unconcious. I hope it gets pursued as a hate crime. whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

The boys aren't on trial for assault. They're on trial for ATTEMPTED MURDUR. The white kid who was beat up was in good enough condition to play in his football game the next day, so the charges of attempted murder are really rediculous, and racist.
