In my rough opinion, Paul had what John had from the beginning (ex. R&R Music vs Long Tall Sally). But, John didn't have what Paul had.
So, it's possible that when John discovered "John" in Paul, he may have "accused" Paul for "ripping off his style."

Aside from your question, I do believe they were respecting each other as a "brother" no matter how they were different.

I don't see how that was ever an issue. Their styles are quite different where I'm standing!

He may have done that when he was drunk and angry. When John was younger (1960s) he was often drunk and angry.
