In the field of psychology --
A person with MPD Multiple Personality Disorder
(also called Dissociative Identity Disorder)
The person has more than one manner in which they come across. Let's say Alternate Personality (alter) comes across as a Mean old Lady. Another alter comes across as a 7 yr old child, always happy. The same core person has yet another alter who is quiet, intelligent and loves classical music.

When the person switches / alternates between one personality and another, it could be said that the person is exhibiting "alternating possession"

In Sports.............
During the course of a basket ball game, the teams alternate in their posession of the ball.

In personal belongings,
one person purchases and posesses a car. Each time the car is sold, ownership or posession alternates to the new owner.
