Hi. Sounds like a mess. Here is what I recommend:

1. Boot up like you normally do, and use control alt delete to bring up the task manager.

2. Click on File, New Task Run. Click on Browse, and find your desktop, and then find your internet explorer. (If you can't, you may need to go to a friend's house to get the download, and bring it back to yours on a flash drive (a.k.a. thumb drive) and install it by using the Task Manager again.)

3. Get AVG from grisoft.com by going to that website, and typing 'free' in the searchbox at the top of the page.

4. Also get AdAware from lavasoft.com (also free)

5. Install and run the AdAware program first. Remove any threats that it finds, then do a system reboot.

6. Install and run the AVG software. Remove any items it finds.

Then reboot again and see if it works correctly. If not, you may need to do a system restore (if you are on XP, click on START, HELP AND SUPPORT, and search for Restore for directions).

Hope this helps! Feel free to email me at gfromansone16@yahoo.com

reboot the computer and begin it in safe mode. Then make all the changes you need. And in the mean time since there's no protection, disconnect the internet. The internet is the only connection to gaining viruses and such. When in safe mode uninstall/delete the ultimate cleaner 2007 and reinstall norton.

When you right click on the desktop, do you get a menu? If so, click "arrange icons" and see if the "show icons" is checked.

If a virus made off with your system, you should take care of it immediately or wipe your system and restore. Your computer may be a zombie sending out viruses to other people.

How to Restore a Windows XP system to a previous State using System Restore

If Windows XP will start:

* Log on to Windows as an Administrator.
* Click Start, point to All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
* On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and click Next.
* Or type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

This command can be used at the Safe Mode Command Prompt also.

I hope it helps!

First try to boot into safe mode by tapping F8 repeatedly as the computer is booting. Then choose safe mode with networking and try to update your antivirus rpgorams. If it won't let you try going to http://www.pandasecurity.com and using their active scan. then get avg anti-rootkit from http://free.grisoft.com and then use a good free anti-spyware to search and remove spyware. you have to do the first online scans in safe mode though

Modem capability surge difficulty is likewise conceivable.
