My son is 7 months old. He has never really liked to be rocked or cuddled. Anyone else's baby like this? Do you think this means he will be a real independent child?

He does like to be held, talked to, kissed on, all that good stuff. He certainly likes attention. Just not much of a cuddler or a rocker.

Don't worry he's just not into it. My mother said I was just like that. I would hug and give kisses I just didn't like to sit still long enough to cuddle. My daughter is 18 months old and she hates to cuddle but she is very lovey she's just very busy and doesn't want to stop that long. I don't know if it means he'll be independent or not. Just treasure the times he does let you hold him close!

My son was like that also. I held him and cuddled him as much as I could. He would rather cry himself to sleep, took about 2 minutes, than have anyone rock him to sleep. It was quite different. As he grew older he was very standoffish and not a person who showed or received love very well. Now he is 23, happily married for 3 years. He has just started accepting hugs from me the past year. I would think that is just the way he was born. I have no idea why. Don't know if this helps. Just wanted to let you know I've been there.

My second son wasn't a cuddler either. I was a bit sad because I loved to hold and snuggle with my first son, but he's come around. He's now 21 months old and gives hugs and kisses all the time. He loves to sit on my lap and read stories, but he still likes to be on his own also. It was hard for me, but as a result I never had problems getting him to sleep in his crib.

My daughter is the same way (shes now 19 months old) - shes very affectionate she just does not like to be rocked or cuddled and yes she is very independent if I wanted too or had too, I could put her in her room with a small basket of toys for hours..(had to do it when i first got pregnant and i couldn't stand up without passing out, getting dizzy, puking endlessly)

My son is 6 and the only time he wanted to be loved on was when he was sick or tired. Some babies just are not touchy feely.. If you have any concerns then make sure to ask your doctor.
