are you actually allowed to grab onto another players shirt to hold him back? I just saw this on the Dallas game....

It depends. On defense you are allowed to, but if you're blocking on offense you aren't. It's called "holding" if an offensive person does it.

If the player has the ball and you are trying to make a tackle then yes that's OK, if your trying to block the player then it's holding and should not be allowed. Sometimes players get away with holding if it's not seen by a Referee.

You're not supposed to, but a penalty is usually only called if it's egregious.

If you're referring to pulling onto a players jersey in order to tackle him, then yes, that's totally acceptable.

I know the play you seen...you can grab the shirt,but not the shoulder pads,which he didn't do...close but didn't....if his hands went in the shirt they would have threw the flag....
