Racism is about hating or disliking another person because of skin color, ethnic origin, or any other factor that, (in a racist's mind) makes that person less than human.

Racism is learned. In regards to the civil war, it's related because the North wanted to abolish slavery, but the South wanted to keep slavery to raise their crops. Education would be the thing to end racism, but as long as there is free will, racism cannot end.

A community can promote racial and ethnic unity, but cannot bring an end to racism. Racism is too deeply rooted in society. Just as we are born with natural prejudice of things we like or don't like, we are also surrounded and effected by racism. Asking to end racism is like asking to end free thinking. You can't make people shut out a feeling or an idea that they feel is the right way of things, even if you know it's wrong.

Racism is about not viewing difference races as equal in rights and opportunities.

How does it happen? That's a lengthy discussion right there! Try Wikipedia for more help.

Civil War? OUR (USA) Civil War? Other country's civil wars? Again, see Wikipedia

Stop racism? Stop viewing others as unequal.... EVERYONE must stop this!!!

When the think of one who is racist, we immediately think "a WHITE person". But racists are people of ALL colors. Yes, this inculdes BLACKS, too. And doubts exist racism will be totally removed from society anytime soon.

It's amazing that racism is prevalent in states that 150 years ago, fought for the Union AGAINST slavery!!! I think the slavery issue was the REAL reason the Civil War was fought for; more likely, slavery was a sub-reason. The real reason, I speculate (and it IS logical), is that Texas and other Southern states had oil and industrial resources the North didn't.

Racism comes when begrudged intolerances by one race are posed against people of another race (or races). Quickly, these intolerances grow into a festering hate---in some cases, explodes in senseless violence.

Interestingly enough, racial diatribes--observations of other races--comes w/ a mix of real and imagined thoughts of one's way of life.

But in the end, racism is senseless; people are going to live as they've done for hundreds of years---and no amount of ridicule, hatred or violence against others is going to end those ways of one's life.

Racism happens when one group of people beleives that their better them all other groups of people. This can lead to murder, rape, destuction of property. One of the reasons for the Civil War was that it was a social class stuggle between The North and the South. Slavery was legal at the time. Slaves were Black people taken from Africa to serve. They wer ofte mistreated and touhgt of less then a person...

one race hating or abusing another race.
the Civil War was more then slavery:
(not all southerners had or believed in slavery)
trade
states rights
what new states should allow slavery
read a history book before 1980 (withput PC redefined or "revisionist" history).
Today there is a reverse racism going on.

People have to want to get along no matter what race is guilty of racism.

Racism is just thinking you're better than other people. Unfortunately, although we can try to reduce it, we can never eliminate it. People will always think that they are better than other people. There is no way, humanly-speaking to do it - it's part and parcel of sin.

It's not about ignorance, it's about SIN. Education will never take care of it, because racism is a symptom, not an underlying cause. It's true that some educated people may not be racist in the commonly-understood sense, but they will believe that they're better than people in other ways. Example: "Now that I'm educated I am no longer racist, but I'm way better than those Republicans and fundamentalists."

The symptoms may be different, but the root causes are the same.

Insecurity about your own identity.
Just as homophobia is insecurity about sexuality.
It was not the cause of the American Civil War.
But it became the excuse after the fact.
