In British school at that time they tought more science than anywhere else.

Because it invented steam power and had all the raw materials such as coal and iron to produce manufactured goods.
It also had in place a large navy to trade with the rest of the world and the first railways and a canal system to distribute the products.

They discovered that it was more cost-effective and more productive to hire people (including children) to work in factories for very, very low wages.... instead of housing, feeding, and transporting slaves for the slave's entire life.

That's capitalism.
