there are a lot of them. I belong to the writingbridge (www.thewritingbridge.org) but you have to apply and be accepted to become a member.

You will find that that is true for most of the good critiquing groups. You should be glad of it, too. Beware posting anything on an open group, for two reasons.
1) your work can be stolen (plagiarized)
2) many publishers consider anything openly available as having been published. You willlimit your market for a piece if it has been published in this fashion. A closed group is NOT usually considered published.

NaNoWriMo is specifically geared to those participating in the NaNo challenge, but it's also a good resource/community for other writers as well. They're wiping the forums tomorrow, but as of October 1st you'll be able to register again.

Google "writing forums".

Be forewarned though, 80% of the people on forums are terrible writers who think they know everything. But, that can be good as well. I've learned far more from bad writing than I have from good writing.
