Good question actually.
I guess, at one point Google became so popular a search engine and that's when those phrases became so common and became commonplace.
Personally, I use any other search engine but google. Don't ask me why. Maybe for the same reason I try to stay away from M$ products

That is just a generic pop culture term for using a search engine. The reason that noone says MSNed it or yahoo-ed it is because they are not as popular as google.

google apart from being name of a search engine also has some meaning to its name, yes what u r thinking is correct when some one ask u to google it they mean that they want u to search for something on www.google.com

probably because google is the most well known search engine right now its like people calling any mp3 player an ipod its just the most familiar brand name so they dont memorize any thing but that brand name

Because the genius that started "Google" came up with a better company name. Google it sounds better than Yahoo it or MSN it. I'm sure the guys over at yahoo and msn we're kicking themselves....
