Just curious, I'm currently 40 weeks 4 days and still going strong as a waitress! i tried to do the whole 'take off work' thing, but I sat at home thinking about how much money I could be making, and how that one day that I wasnt would equate to one more day that I wouldnt get to share with my baby because I would have to return to work that much sooner

I worked up until I had my babies.. I had the same mentality as you. I just sat around thinking of how much money I could have mad at work on a day and didn't want to waste anymore time ;) If your body says don't work, then I would say that's a good sign that you need to take a break, but otherwise, keep on working!

I work at a daycare and have been there 12 years. I am married. The plan was when we had kids that I would stay home. Every person's situation is different. If I could I'd quit now. I think I'm just basically done there. But realistically I will probably work through January (due end of March). I just want some time to get things together (if I feel like it considering I'll be big and sore by then) and relax as best as I can. My husband is worried about money but I know we can do it. I just want to make a little more $$ before I quit though then eventually get a part time job OTHER than daycare.

Work as long as you feel you can. After all the more active you are the easier your labor can be. I am a teacher and I worked until the last day of school, my son was born in June. However, yes you can make more money but you also need rest. Once that baby is born you can kiss rest and sleep good bye for at least a month. If you can, try to rest as much as you can while you can. Can you work about 3 or 4 hours a day, so you can still be active but still rest?

If I could, I would work right up to my due date. I work as a receptionist, and there has to be someone there. If I went into labor at work, I would feel guilty to just take off, so I chose to start my leave at 39 weeks. If the baby decides she wants to come sooner during the work day... oh well. I feel bad, because I know my boss is having a hard time to find someone to replace me for the short term...

Good for you! I worked until 39 weeks and she was born then. I worked on Friday and was going to go back to work on Monday but my water broke on Sunday night. When I went to my regular doctor appointments I used to try to think up physical problems I could have or just plain beg him to let me stay home under disability but I could never go through with it, because I was healthy and I too didn't want to miss a single day with my baby. I had a desk job though, so you are doing amazing! I was getting very distracted at the end and could barely concentrate on anything. Early congratulations, you are almost there!

I stopped working 3 months before my due date so that I would have plenty of time to get the nursery ready, clean my house really well, spend quality time with my husband (since we knew that would be more difficult after the baby came), etc. Then, "surprise!" The little sweetie decided to make an early entrance into the world and came six weeks early. So, I guess you never know!

I worked until my doctor told me I was dialted to 2 and 100% effaced. I worked 2 more days after that then went on leave. I had the baby 2 days after that. This all happened at 38 weeks.

Don't worry. As long as your doc doesn't have you restricted in some way, its okay to work right up until your water breaks. I was induced with my last child and went to work the day before I had him. I worked from home for three weeks afterward and back full time after that. Don't let anyone chastise you for your decision. Its perfectly fine as long as you're not doing anything unhealthy. Just pay attention to your body's signals. If you feel tired, rest.

I worked right up until I had babies #1 and #2, I stopped working after that. I went into labor with both on a Sunday. Called work Monday morning and started my leave.

I stopped working when preterm labor hit at 32 weeks and was on bedrest until my son was born at 37 weeks. It was definitely hard financially but, if I am remembering correctly, I thought I had 5 weeks of disability due to being put on bedrest from my doctor....but regardless, it wasn't what I was making if I had stayed at work!
