winter symbolizes death, destruction, despondency, lowest state opposite of summer (full life) spring is more associated with regeneration, newness, youth. autumn relates to the onset of winter, leaves are turning yellow and falling of trees as in this Sonnet 73line:
In me you can see that time of year
When a few yellow leaves or none at all hang
On the branches, shaking against the cold,
Winter is cold, no life.
