As a father, an uncle & a 'just a guy' - I believe these are terrible influences on our youth and culture. I gave up watching TV (for the most part) a LONG time back, it's cr@p all the way.
I'd love to get these 'shows' off the airwaves (or digital lines) because they do not bring anything remotely positive or educational into the viewers life or mind... quite simply, they suck.
I would suggest a little 'home bound activism'. Turn the screen off when such rubbish is thrust upon it, tell others around you how the programme is for mentally inept (which if they aren't to begin with, they will be by the end of it) and so on. Explain 'WHY' it is rubbish and why it is a bad influence.. not much point yabbering without a good reason behind the chin-flapping.
Good call, btw :o)

I agree completely. These shows are reinforcing the idea that guys should be doing all kinds of really stupid and dangerous things. Someone pointed out in another question a while ago that some guys are taping firecrackers to their chests and lighting them--anything to get on Youtube. I think there is a lot of pressure on guys from guys to do these things. It's always about who can do the most dangerous stunt and walk away. And it's not like guys express any pain. They just keep going a lot of times, only to die later from internal injuries. I think it is influencing people, but they also have to take responsibility and be the ones to stop it. They are doing these acts voluntarily. There are always choices.

This is a quite theoretical question. How would I know it was really Jesus? There are many contradictions in the Bible about Jesus and other things. if he could convince me he was real, I'd ask him if he was born before 4 BC or in 6 or 7 AD. The Bible has ten or more years difference in his date of birth. Even if he was real, and he could take me to his Heaven, I would not want to go. Isaac Asimov and Mark Twain agreed on this point. heaven sounds so boring and depressing. Your question is about like my asking you what you would do if you found Aladdin's lamp or Excalibur. None of these things are ever going to happen, so it is a waste of time to speculate about it, as the Buddha said. Why do you ask such pointless questions?

No one wants to thinks all guys are like that but it sure does look that way by what is on tv. It is a bad influence on boys. The televsion company is making money. The more they make the harder it is to get the show off the air.

are you kidding, just like the oc,gossip girl don't stereotype all females.
I personally looooveeeeee wild boyz and jackass and viva la bam. of course i know that not all men are like that.
i don't allow tv, and the overall media stereotype affect how i think.
all the shows on tv are just entertainment.
learn to enjoy them, lighten up...they will always be there.
if you meet a girl that stereotypes you because of tv or what she thinks she knows, she can't think for her self... or is easily manipulated...i think that would be the word.

*sighs* yes I agree with you about how these shows effect others especially young ones starting out in this "brave" world. I dont see all guys doing this. I date men with respect for me and themselves. I'm actually getting better at filtering the different types out...lol
But then we can go further and say magazines with tooth pick sizes are being bought and read by young girls....and rap music about gangsters and....all those other topics that got pointed out more than ever after Don's job loss. People that produce this garbage get too wrapped into it to realize theres still future generations being formed after them.

Just for the record, I think Jackass is hilarious. I've not seen most of the rest of those shows. I don't have cable and I don't watch much TV.
I have my own question--who has the right to decide what entertainment and humor is dumb and what is enlightened?
I definitely don't agree with your attempt to censor them. People need to stand up and be parents...it's their responsibility to look out for what their children see and how they interpret it.

frankly i don't see the utility of these shows but why as a feminist does that fall under the equal rights for women category? It's men doing things that are considered stereotypic to their gender but how does it infringe on gender equality? You seem to be confusing feminism with anti-men

TV shows have ratings and the V-chip to stop 10 year olds from watching them and then trying to do it. It's up to the parents to filter out what their kids are watching.
As to making men seem dumb, too late... It's in our nature to do stupid s#!t. I've seen things on TV AFTER seeing them done IRL.
Parents: Filter your TV, you have those "parental controls" for a reason.
Dudes: Rock on. \w/

I really don't think of stereotypes when I watch those shows, I just cringe in horror and then laugh my azz off. If my sons are stupid enough to try that sh!t after watching what happens when someone does that, then they deserve the broken bones.
