What do you call the wooden objects (cross shaped) where the strings used in puppetry are attached?

...? What do you call those wooden crosses where the strings used in puppetry are attached. They lift part of it and the doll/puppet moves, etc. What do you call em? Please no answers like "wood?" ....

They call them controls, and then the different parts of a control have names..
